Zoning Code Update – Longview Municipal Code Title 19
The City is undertaking a major evaluation of its zoning code, including the City’s subdivision regulations. The process is expected to be complete by the end of 2009. The last encompassing evaluation and update of the City’s zoning and subdivision regulations was completed in 1967, 40 years ago.
The Comprehensive Plan’s Chapter 10 identifies the action plan, objectives, and recommendations for when the zoning code revisions should be accomplished.
The City of Longview Planning Commission is responsible for guiding the update process. The City has contracted with the Cowlitz-Wahkiakum Council of Governments to provide planning assistance for this project. Steve Langdon, Longview’s Planning Manager, is the project manager. As draft code sections are developed and approved for release by the Planning Commission, they will be posted on this site. Periodically, the City will hold public hearings or other public events to inform the public and receive comments. Announcements of these events will also be posted on this site.
The residential portion of the Zoning Code Update was adopted by the City Council in January 2010 and the ordinance became effective February 19, 2010. Ordinances No. 3122 and 3123 have been incorporated into the Longview Municipal Code and into the zoning map.
The Longview Planning Commission has released the draft Industrial Zoning Code Update for public review. Upcoming public hearings will be announced at a later date.
