Citizens Academy Applications accepted until February 26, 2010
Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office, Kelso Police Department and Longview Police Department will be working together to conduct a Citizen’s Police Academy this spring.
The Citizens’ Police Academy is a 10 week program held every Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. beginning March 10, 2010 through May 12, 2010. The class size is limited to the first 50 applicants admitted. Prior attendees will be admitted after all new applicants are processed (if class space is available).
Those eligible to attend must be at least 21 years of age and work or live in the Cowlitz County area. Applicants can have no felony or domestic violence convictions. Misdemeanor arrests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Applicants must pass a background check documented by law enforcement.

- Patrol function
- K-9 programs
- Property crimes
- Gang enforcement
- Narcotics investigation
- Crime prevention
- Firearms
- Court process
- DUI investigations
- Traffic law
- Investigations
- Defensive tactics
